It’s simple, local animals need local people like you! There are so many ways you can help us and there are benefits for you too!

The animals this Branch cares for live right here in Nottingham. We need people like you to volunteer to help them in a variety of ways. From two hours once a month to a couple of days a week we can always make good use of you and your skills. Just think of a simple thing to help such as selling raffle tickets, collecting donations or manning a store collection. Or perhaps you want to become a branch trustee. It may only be a few hours of your time but you will make such a difference!

As we do not have any animals on premises, we are unable to offer work experience, voluntary placements or training schemes involving animal care.

Volunteer

Volunteers are CRUCIAL in helping keep Branch going and the work they do is vital. You too could be part of the team by

  • Helping in our Charity Shop (located Eastwood). Your time will be greatly appreciated and you’ll get to meet new people as well as helping animals.
  • Do a RSPCA donation bag drop locally or take some to work/social group for neighbours, friends and colleagues to fill up with donations, we can collect too.

  • Sell Raffle tickets. By selling just a couple of books you will have fed a cat or dog for a day.
  • Collect prizes for regular raffles/tombolas. Unwanted gifts are ideal!

Volunteers need 2 references and one of these must be from someone who knows you in a professional capacity.

PLEASE NOTE: We have no animals on premises, therefore we cannot offer ‘hands on’ animal work placements, work experience or DoE volunteering.

Events

You can volunteer at events in a variety of ways. By baking, selling raffle tickets before the event, promoting via social media, putting up posters or by collecting at specific events. This means you can do your bit without having to commit a lot of time.

Fundraise

Whether it’s jumping from a plane, running 10K or volunteering your time, YOU can help us by fundraising in a multitude of ways

  • A Bingo/Casino night – Charity poker night or shouting a full house participants will be helping local animals.
  • Skills/Silent Auction – Any auction, be it of skills people have or of items donated.
  • Quiz night – a great fun event, can even be TV quiz themed
  • Pub Amenities evening – get people to donate whilst playing darts/pool/snooker.
  • Sponsored Events – A stalwart of fundraising and you can have a sponsored ‘anything’. ‘Go without sponsorship’ for those that’s challenge would be spend a day without texting or chocolate or swearing! Or how about spending a night in a local haunted house/pub. We want you to raise funds with the emphasis on FUN so put your thinking cap on and see what you can come up with.

We will provide you with posters and promotional material so people know exactly where their donation is going.

Legacies

The RSPCA Nottingham and Notts Branch was founded in 1875 and we are one of 3 branches who cover the county of Nottinghamshire.  Our area is primarily the city itself which is listed the 9th most populous urban area in England in 2020*  With a dense urban population comes a significant number of pets and sadly, this in turn can lead to a concentration of potential neglect.

For the last 146 years we have been at the forefront of animal welfare in our great East Midlands city, providing advice, practical assistance and essentially, supporting local Inspectorate.  Animals rescued by officers are more likely to have suffered at the hands of those they trusted.  These creatures are and always have been, our priority

Through the kindness of individuals who have remembered us in their wills, Nottingham and Notts branch continues to be there for sick, injured and neglected animals.  A legacy allows us to provide care, food and shelter for animals like Buddy (pictured right).  At a very young age, Buddy required a double amputation (rear leg and his tail).  Thanks to the generosity of gifts left to us, we were able to fund all his veterinary treatment and weeks of intensive recuperation too.

Discussing your will can be a difficult subject to broach.  However, knowing your affairs are in order and that your wishes will be carried out as requested can bring a huge sense of comfort.
